Frozen

9/15/2014

My love for skating and the love of my daughter took my 4 hours away to see "Frozen on ice," where  I witnessed the love of theatrical skating through my daughters eyes. Of course every child, and the young at heart, in the arena sang every song so much that the music and the audience became one. The costumes and staging were so grand.  When there was an icy blast, sparks flew and it snowed on the ice. The skaters ran, floated and glided across the ice while they acted out the movie. Over all it was a delightful experience seen through the eyes of a child and the young at heart.

Juvenile Power Circles

On this edition of "Simply Move It"  we are going to talk about the Power Circles from the Juvenile moves. Before I show them the pattern I talk about the count.  The first crossover is held for four counts, The next two Crossovers are held for Three counts, the next Three Crossovers are held for Two counts, the next Four crossovers are held for One counts, and the next Five crossovers are held for half count. Did you notice each one equals five. 4+1=5 and 3+2= 5. I hope this helps your skaters the next time they are doing their Power Circles. Save the Waltz 8

On May 3 the USFS Governing Council will be voting on whether to keep the Waltz8 in the Pre-Preliminary moves or to replace it with the move on lobes.

I believe moving the Waltz 8 to Preliminary and move the forward circle 8 in Preliminary to Pre-Preliminary is a better option. Without the waltz 8 skaters will not find the control needed for setting up their axels, or in the 5 step mohawk from the Pre-Juvenile moves. Changing the move from circles to lobes does not give the skater the opportunity to show edge quality and control. Check out the youtube video blog on Halloween called the moves that come back to haunt you. The Waltz 8 was one of those moves highlighted in the move.

Choctaw Sequence

On this edition of "Simply Move It" we are outdoors in beautiful Vermont and we re going to talk about the Choctaw Sequence from the Junior moves. First I am going to make a long axis in the snow. When working on the Choctaw Sequence I tell my skaters to keep their left foot on the left side of the long axis and their right foot on the right side of the long axis. Here is my example. I hope this helps your skaters the next time they are doing their Choctaw Sequence. For more information go to www.JennLoops.com See you on the ice!
