Getting Power in a Push
Since I coach both Figure Skating and Power Skating to hockey players. I find myself using the same technique for both disciplines. I do understand there are a few things different about both skating styles. When you get right down to it power is power. Recently, I have been having my skaters dig into the ice with their edge and pushing against the boards as if they are trying to knock them over. The results of this exercise has proven to be beneficial to the force applied to the edge while skating. They are moving faster across the ice with not only more force, but with better extension in their stride, therefore achieving maximum power and speed with less movement to get where they are going.
